How I Create Small Moments of Calm in My Day

Lately I’ve been paying more attention to the small moments in my day – the ones that don’t seem important, but actually change how everything feels.

I’ve realized that creating a sense of calm isn’t about having more time…it’s about how I choose to move through the time I already have.

For me, it starts in the morning.

Quiet mornings are how my days begin. I’ve always been an early riser, and those early hours are my favorite time of the day. I drink my mate with soft music playing, and Callie, my Boston Terrier, cozy on the couch with lots of blankets. We usually have the patio slider open, letting in the morning air.

I take that time to slow down – to meditate, journal, read, and gently plan my day. It feels grounding before stepping into everything that needs my attention.

Balcony time is another favorite of mine. It was part of my vision when I imagined moving to my own little sunshine paradise.

Some of my favorite moments are weekend mornings on the patio off our bedroom. David makes cappuccinos, and we sit together watching the city wake up. In the distance, the intercostal and ocean bring a sense of peace, calm, and quiet gratitude for being here.

And of course, there are the evenings – sunsets on our main patio, sometimes with a bottle of wine and a simple charcuterie board. Those moments feel just as meaningful.

I’ve come to realize that any small moment can bring calm, if we allow ourselves to truly notice it.

Even something as simple as sitting with your cup of coffee in the morning – without rushing, without reaching for your phone – can shift everything. It brings awareness, and suddenly that moment feels fuller, softer, more alive.

I think that’s what it really comes down to.

Not more time…just more presence.
